CORONATION TREK

Sikkim has a rich three hundred years old history with Miwang Chogyal Chempo Palden Thondup Namgyal being the last and the 12th consecrated Chogyal of Sikkim. The written history of Sikkim starts in Yuksam.

This low altitude trek in West Sikkim follows a trail through the history of Sikkim. On this trek, one can witness the Coronation throne at Yuksam- meaning the meeting place of three superior ones, where the 1st King of Sikkim Phunstok Namgyal was coroneted in 1641 A.D.

The trek offers you an insight into the culture of Sikkim with a visit to Buddhist monasteries in Pemayangtse, Tashiding, Yuksam and Khechoperi. This is a moderate trek for all ages at an easy pace hiking through Cardamon fields, tranquil villages, lush green trails with springs and waterfalls. For any trekkers and hikers, this trek is a blend of adventure, nature and culture of Sikkim.

Itinerary:

DAY 01: Arrive Pelling from Gangtok enjoying a pictures drive through Ravangla. After noon a pleasant walk to Pemayangtse  monastery enjoying the sun set on Kanchenjunga – the third highest mountain in the world. Stay O/N.
DAY 02: Enjoy the sunrise on Kanchandzonga mountain range and trek to Tashiding. Arrive Tashiding. A short walk to Tashidig monastery takes you to this premier monastery in Sikkim. Stay at Tashiding village.
DAY 03: Trek to the first capital of Sikkim- Yuksam, also the trekking base camp for Dzongri and Gochala treks where Yak and Yeti Travels regularly organises trekking trips to the international trekkers. This is also the base camp for starting Mt. Thingchinkhang climbing expedition which was climbed by German Spanish and Indian team in October 2006, marking it the 1st International Sucessful expedition to Mt. Thigchinkhang 6010 in Sikkim Himalayas. Afternoon hike to Norbugang where a stone throne of 1st King lies as a National Monument. Stay O/N.
DAY 04: Explore Yuksam where ethnic communities Subba -Tsong, Lepchas and Bhutias live in harmony. Khanchendzonga Conservation Committee has its office here which is an active NGO in protection and conservation issues for Khanchendzonga National Park which has rare and endangered species of plants and wildlife. Sikkim is the second place after South America in terms of bio-diversity and bird species to be located together in a certain area. Trek to Khechopalri Lake- a sacred lake to the Sikkimese people. It is popularly called as “Wishing Lake” where pilgrims come to ask for a wish to be fulfilled by their next visit. Arrive Khechoperi village. Stay O/N.
DAY 05: An early walk to this lake is really rewarding and soul searching. You will find yourself amidst the tranquil and peaceful nature forgetting the world outside its atmosphere. Not a single leaf floats on its waters and if a leaf falls a bird will quickly pick it up dropping it at its shore. This land- logged lake is a host to the migratory birds that visit during March and April. A walk to Cho jo village nearby will enrich you in many ways where Lepchas, the original inhabitants of Sikkim share their deep belief with this holy lake. They regard this lake a their local deity and pay homage for it being the little sister of Lake Mansarovar in Tibet near Mt. Kailash.
You will be moved by such strong faith in natural deity and wonder at the stars by the evening. Stay O/N.
DAY 06: Your trek is about to reach the last lap today but you wake up thinking the trek would just continue with such legacy, spirits, purity and heavenly experience at soul.
A moderate trek through the paddy fields after crossing the Rimbi river, you head uphill towards Pelling. In the afternoon visit Rabdentse Palce Ruins- the second capital of Sikkim.
On reaching Pelling you being to miss the land that you have trekked through. You will be tempted to find an elevated place in isolation to see the hills of Tashiding, Khechoperi and Yuksam to recollect the moments that moved you to re-discover yourself.
DAY 07: Its time for departure. Alsa! You had some more time trekking with Yak and Yeti Travels.
